Last of the First

Alyiakal is a Mirror Lancer, transferred to the headquarters of Cyador and promoted to Subcommander. His campaigns have removed most of the empire's outside enemies, and the real dangers are now at home: a weak emperor in the grip of a scheming empress, a merchant clan stealing from the treasury, an indecisive high commander and a power struggle among the Magi'i.

He must find his way through the city's politics and meet his destiny. The twenty-sixth and final book in L. E. Modesitt Jr.'s Saga of Recluce.
