About this book
Humanity has fled a dying Earth and lives in great ships, where every child must pass a test at fourteen: a month alone on a colony world, with what they can carry. Mia Havero, the daughter of an important man, has grown up in privilege and is approaching her own Trial.
She looks back as an adult at what happened on the planet Tintera, and how it changed her views of the Ship, of the colonists and of the adults around her. Alexei Panshin's coming-of-age novel won the Nebula Award.
